The Heart Foundation of Jamaica celebrates WHD23!
The Heart Foundation of Jamaica (HFJ) kicked off World Heart Week 2023 with a statue lighting ceremony at the Bob Marley Museum on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. The Bob Marley statue was lit in red, the symbol of heart health awareness.
The statue lighting is a global initiative of the World Heart Federation to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease (CVD), the world's leading cause of death. The Foundation joined over 100 countries in participating in this symbolic gesture to show its commitment to fighting CVD.
On World Heart Day, an outside broadcast was hosted by the HFJ on Edge 105 FM on the Burger man Show from 1 pm to 5pm. The broadcast featured discussions with heart health experts and tips for preventing CVD. The HFJ also participated in interviews on other media outlets throughout the week to raise awareness about CVD and its prevention.
Further collaborations in commemoration of the week was made with Well Fit Jamaica to host a cardio blast workout on the morning of World Heart Day at 6am. Members of the HFJ participated in the workout to keep their hearts pumping.
In addition, an online presentation was held by Well Fit Jamaica, which the Foundation was invited to speak on the work being done to treat cardiovascular disease and to promote heart health in Jamaica. The presentation was made to members of the Jamaican Diaspora under the theme "Caring for Your Heart Master Class". The presentation was hosted by Dr. Kimani Borland where she covered a range of topics relating to heart health, including nutrition, exercise, and stress management.
The HFJ encouraged the public to participate in a heart quiz on the World Heart Federation website. The quiz was designed to test people's knowledge about CVD and its prevention.
The Foundation’s World Heart Week activities were a great success in raising awareness about CVD and its prevention. We are committed to continue the work to educate Jamaicans about CVD and how they may live longer, healthier lives.
