This September, the Stroke Association\u00a0Supportnetwork-Ghana<\/a> (SASNET-GHANA) celebrated World Heart Day by\u00a0raising population awareness on cardiovascular disease (CVD)\u00a0through the usage of\u00a0traditional and social media. The campaign\u00a0also followed up on the commitment made\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0Ghanian government in 2020 to improve heart health through control,\u00a0prevention,\u00a0and treatment.\u00a0This\u00a0awareness campaign was made possible with the support of the World Heart Federation\u00a0through the yearly World Heart Grants\u00a0Programme<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Various events took place over a ten-day period, from 20<\/span> September to 30 September<\/span>. Community forums, social media campaigns,\u00a0press releases, community engagement activities, among others, constituted\u00a0the activities organized by the SASNET-GHANA.\u00a0The main event consisted of a meeting with the manager of the\u00a0Non-Communicable Diseases Control\u00a0Programme\u00a0of the Ghana Health Services.\u00a0The ministry of health disclosed interest in working with SASNET-GHANA and the World Heart Federation to develop strategies to reduce the burden of CVD in Ghana and\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the exchange of information on the topic.\u00a0Furthermore,\u00a0the team\u00a0facilitated\u00a0discussion between the community and the health ministry. In the discussion, they were able\u00a0to find\u00a0barriers that people\u00a0living with\u00a0CVD have\u00a0encountered, such as affordability and\u00a0availability of the medication\u00a0prescribed to CVD\u00a0patients and\u00a0discussed various\u00a0possible solutions\u00a0to these issues.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The\u00a0SASNET-GHANA also brought attention to the\u00a0intersection\u00a0between COVID-19 and CVD.
