{"id":13356,"date":"2022-10-28T13:44:10","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T11:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=13356"},"modified":"2022-10-28T13:48:40","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T11:48:40","slug":"preventing-and-controlling-ncds-in-the-wpro-region","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/news\/preventing-and-controlling-ncds-in-the-wpro-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Preventing and controlling NCDs in the Western Pacific Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sf-content-block content-block\">\n<div>\n<p><strong><em>This is a statement made at the seventy-third session of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/westernpacific\/about\/governance\/regional-committee\/session-73\">World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Western Pacific<\/a>, held from 24 to 28 October 2022 in Manila, Philippines.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sf-content-block content-block\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Honourable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"button button-dark-border\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The endorsement of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he draft Regional Framework on the Future of Primary Health Care in the Western Pacific<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is an important step towards improving PHC in the region <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and the World Heart Federation is pleased to lend its full support to its adoption and implementation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">NCDs <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">represent a huge burden on healthcare and welfare costs, exacerbating further existing health and social inequities in society.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Much of this burden is completely avoidable.\u00a0 The World Heart Federation endorses the draft Regional Framework on the future of PHC for the Western Pacific Region, and we also applaud and reiterate the shift in thinking included within the document \u2013 to transform a treatment based \u2018sick system\u2019 in to a \u2018health system\u2019. Primary healthcare is an important cornerstone of early intervention and must be strengthened.
