Attended by a large group of experts and advocates, the Roundtable focused on the country&#8217;s shift from managing communicable diseases to dealing with non-communicable diseases that can be caused by unhealthy habits like smoking, lack of exercise, and poor diet. The experts discussed strategies to tackle these challenges and improve overall public health in the country.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-15224 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Roundtable_Ghana_2023-1600x1067.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following statements from representatives of the Ministry of Health, International Diabetes Federation, Ghana NCD Alliance, Food and Drug Authority Ghana, pharmaceutical companies and Ghana health services, the group of experts and advocates broke into smaller groups for deeper solutions-oriented discussions using the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalheartjournal.com\/articles\/abstract\/10.1016\/j.gheart.2019.07.009\/\">WHF Roadmap on the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Among People Living With Diabetes<\/a> as a framework to guide discussions.<\/p>\n<p>Long distances to facilities, inconsistent information provided by healthcare professionals and medical treatment costs were among the main challenges that people living with CVD and diabetes face in Ghana. A lack of specialists and underprepared community health workers make it difficult to adequately manage the rising prevalence of <a href=\"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/what-is-cvd\/\">CVD<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/what-we-do\/diabetes\/\">diabetes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/what-we-do\/obesity\/\">obesity<\/a>.
