The 76th World Health Assembly (WHA) will gather the world’s health ministers and policymakers from 21 to 30 May 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. Over the week they will deliberate and adopt resolutions related to health topics of global interest and importance, appoint the Director-General, manage the WHO’s finances, and review and approve the proposed programme budget.

Following consideration at the January 2023 meeting of the WHO’s Executive Board (EB152), the WHA agenda has been set to include a range of health topics, from defeating meningitis to action on nutrition. The World Heart Federation is closely following a number of items related to heart health and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including agenda items:

And the ongoing conversation around diagnostics.

Together with our partners in the Global Coalition for Circulatory Health and the NCD Alliance, WHF will also be leading two in-depth constituency statements on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Resilience. This special category of statement made by Non-State Actors in Official Relations with WHO allows us a longer speaking interval and priority timing during the Member States’ comments from the floor.

The busy week of the World Health Assembly will also be filled with a number of relevant side events. WHF is pleased to be hosting two exciting panel discussions: Harnessing the Power of Strategic Healthcare Partnerships to Improve Cardiovascular Health Outcomes on Monday 22 May 2023 from 12:00 to 14:00 CEST and Countdown to 2030: Are we on track to achieving SDG 3.4? on Tuesday 23 May 2023 from 12:00 to 14:00 CEST.

We also look forward to participating in discussions with Member State and civil society representatives at other events on subjects ranging from climate change to obesity.
