Photo by Violaine Martin.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>From 22-23 November 2017, the World Heart Federation will participate in a Special Session of the WHO Executive Board, held in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>This additional meeting has been convened by WHO to discuss the Draft 13<sup>th<\/sup> General Programme of Work (GPW13), a strategic document that will guide WHO\u2019s support to its Member States from 2019-2023.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/about\/gpw-thirteen-consultation\/en\/\">current draft of GPW13<\/a> has been open for consultation ahead of the Executive Board meeting, and the WHF has compiled and submitted a response to this draft based on comments drawn from WHF Members, Board and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Among WHF\u2019s key comments are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong support for WHO\u2019s top strategic priority of supporting \u2018countries to strengthen health systems in order to progress towards UHC\u2019<\/li>\n<li>A recommendation to add a target of 80% coverage of NCD essential medicines and technologies to the Impact Framework, and to make \u2018<em>Access to NCD essential medicines and technologies\u2019 <\/em>a WHO flagship initiative<\/li>\n<li>A request to WHO to outline in GPW13 its plans for fast-tracking the implementation of the framework for engagement with non-State actors, or FENSA (a key step to building partnerships to address social, economic, commercial and environmental determinants of health)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>WHF will also participate in the meeting and deliver a policy statement that summarizes the key recommendations from WHF\u2019s submission.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/World-Heart-Federation-Comments-WHO-GPW13-Consultation-Response-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHF Consultation Response to GPW13<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.world-heart-federation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Statement-on-Agenda-Item-3-GPW13-Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHF Statement on GPW13<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WHO Headquarters during the Sixty-eight World Health Assembly, Palais des Nations, Geneva.
