Associations, Medicines for Malaria Venture, and US Pharmacopeia\u00a0and supported by\u00a0Fight the Fakes Alliance,\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hank you for the opportunity to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">make this statement<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As members of t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he Fight the Fakes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(FTF)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Alliance<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, we are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">deeply concerned about the rise of s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ubstandard and falsified\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(SF) medical products\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">during<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the on-going COVID-19 pandemic<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">W<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0call for increased efforts of member states, regulatory agencies, law enforcement, and stakeholder<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to tackle th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ever-growing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0issue.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">F<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ake medicines<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0not only\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">threaten patient safety<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but undermine trust in healthcare systems, fuel antimicrobial resistance, and obstruct the goal of achieving\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">UHC<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0by 2030.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he pandemic has\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">renewed focus on<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the devastating impact<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">SF medical products\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">on people<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019s well-being.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pandemic, criminals circulated\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">SF<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">protective equipment, diagnostics,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">potential treatments<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Numerous countries have<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">approved COVID-19 vaccines and initiated\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">inoculati<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">on<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0first reports of falsified vaccines circulating have<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0also<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0started to emerge. With the growing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0demand to contain the pandemic and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0swiftly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">vaccinate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0health care workers and high-risk groups, the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0threat of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">falsified\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">vaccines<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">omnipresent<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0globally<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We, the members of t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">FTF<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Alliance<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">representing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">health care professionals, manufacturers, wholesalers, researchers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and patients<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">around<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the world<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">strongly urge people\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0not purchase alleged COVID-19 vaccines from online sources or street vendors.
