{"id":7949,"date":"2021-05-24T10:34:42","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T08:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=7949"},"modified":"2021-05-25T15:39:06","modified_gmt":"2021-05-25T13:39:06","slug":"addressing-oral-health-and-ncds-at-wha74","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/world-heart-federation.org\/news\/addressing-oral-health-and-ncds-at-wha74\/","title":{"rendered":"Addressing oral health and NCDs at #WHA74"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>This is a statement made at the 74th session of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/about\/governance\/world-health-assembly\/seventy-fourth-world-health-assembly\">World Health Assembly<\/a> on Agenda item 13.2: <em>Political declaration of the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases<\/em> by the World Dental Federation and the International Association for Dental Research s<\/strong><strong>upported by the World Heart Federation, Smile Train, NCD Alliance, International Diabetes Federation, International Society of Nephrology and World Stroke Organization.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On behalf of FDI World Dental Federation and the International Association for Dental Research, representing over 1 million dentists, and the International Association for Dental Research, representing over 10,000 researchers, supported by Smile Train, NCDA, IDF, ISN, WHF and WSO, we thank Sri Lanka for leading the resolution on Oral health.<\/p>\n<p>Oral diseases affect almost half of the world\u2019s population and are strongly associated with other NCDs. Optimal oral health for all will only be achieved if the response is integrated within the NCD and UHC agendas. We urge Member States to adopt the proposed resolution and strengthen its implementation by:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Addressing orofacial clefts, access to affordable fluoridated toothpaste, and community-based fluoridation where relevant, as advised by the updated DG\u2019s report.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting dental research to strengthen evidence on prevention, oral health disparities, oral disease associations with other NCDs such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, mental and neurological disorders, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancers; and research into full alternatives to dental amalgam, being affordable and accessible.<\/li>\n<li>Meaningfully engaging people living with oral diseases, oral health professionals, national dental associations, and other civil society organizations in oral health programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that future processes, such as the proposed resolution on Diabetes and the upcoming 2023\u20132030 NCD implementation roadmap, integrate and align with the resolution on Oral health.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Member States must ensure that the proposed global oral health strategy, action plan, 2030 targets, and \u201cbest buys\u201d aim to integrate oral health into national NCD strategies and health budgets, focusing on shared risk factors; including essential oral health services into UHC benefits packages; strengthening the oral health workforce through multidisciplinary care teams; and improving oral health surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>To support this, FDI\u2019s <em>Vision 2030: Delivering Optimal Oral Health for All<\/em> report provides several examples of national action on integrated oral health.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a statement made at the 74th session of the World Health Assembly on Agenda item 13.2: Political declaration of the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases by the World Dental Federation and the International Association for Dental Research supported by the World Heart Federation, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":7950,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","footnotes":""},"event":[199],"project-campaign":[],"topic":[],"class_list":["post-7949","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v23.2 (Yoast SEO v23.2) -
