\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nGeneva, 24 June 2021.<\/strong> <\/span> WHF is proud to partner with the Brazilian Society of Cardiology to host the World Congress of Cardiology (WCC) together with the 77th Brazilian Cardiology Congress (CBC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in October 2022\u00a0at the Riocentro convention centre.<\/span><\/p>\nSince 1950, WCC, led by the World Heart Federation (WHF), has been a major event for health care professionals, offering a truly global perspective on heart health and gathering thousands of cardiology professionals from around the world, with the common goal of reducing the global burden of cardiovascular disease.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThis will not be the first time WCC comes to Brazil. In 1998, also in Rio de Janeiro, the event gathered 20.000 attendees. The last time the major cardiology congress was held in South America was in 2008, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nBringing WCC to Brazil means transforming Rio de Janeiro into the Heart capital of the world. Ever since the city became a candidate to host the event, Rio’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, declared his full support for turning Rio into a major protagonist and offering this global platform for cardiovascular health professionals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cRio de Janeiro is very proud to host the World Congress of Cardiology in 2022. Every heart in the world will be looking to the Marvellous City. I am sure that the cariocas will receive everyone with open arms. Besides gathering the world\u00b4s best physicians, the event will also have significant economic importance, as we have the expectation that 30.000 persons will join us here.\u00a0\u00a0Science and tourism will be united so that Rio can get back on track\u201d, said the mayor, after the confirmation of Rio as the host city.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThe Brazilian Congress of Cardiology of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC) has <\/span>established as the largest cardiology congress in Latin America and as the fourth largest in the world. In 2022, it reaches its 77th edition, returning to an in-person format after a two-year interlude with digital editions, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Together with the WCC, SBC expects a record-shattering audience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWith an expected participation of 30.000 people, many of them from around the world, the WCC will also have a significant economic impact on the city, as the total economic impact could reach up to US$50 million, considering the event itself and tourism revenues.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThis massive undertaking will have Dr Andr\u00e9a Brand\u00e3o at the helm, as well as the President of the 77th CBC. Dr Andr\u00e9a is a Full Professor of Cardiology at Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) and Director for Scientific Departments at SBC, and has vast experience in event organization within cardiology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cWe are delighted with this challenge and will give our best to organize the best cardiology congress Brazil has ever had \u2013 after such a long interval due to the pandemic, we are looking forward to meeting our friends in cardiology and to continue learning with them about cardiovascular disease.
