WHF President-Elect, Prof David Wood, and WHF Director of Policy & Advocacy, Jeremiah Mwangi, will next week be participating in the WHO Global Dialogue Meeting <\/a>on the role of non-State actors in supporting Member States in their national efforts to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs), as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n The meeting will see\u00a0 representatives from Member States, United Nations organizations, other intergovernmental organizations and non-State actors like the World Heart Federation, philanthropic foundations, business associations and academic institutions convene at a Global Dialogue Meeting in Balaclava, Mauritius (19-21 October 2016).<\/p>\n Non-State actors, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), business associations, philanthropic foundations and academic institutions, are critical partners in supporting the implementation of government-led efforts to address cancer, diabetes, heart disease, chronic respiratory diseases and the associated risk factors. However, the specific roles and responsibilities of each of these actors vary, depending on the country, the topic and the circumstances.<\/p>\n
