In March 2018, representatives from agencies supporting the Global Hearts Initiative to Reduce Heart Attacks and Strokes, including the World Heart Federation, met in Geneva to discuss progress and opportunities for further advancement.
Participants convened by the World Health Organization included the American Heart Association, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Chronic Disease Control India, the International Society of Hypertension, Resolve to Save Lives, the University of Oxford, the World Heart Federation, the World Hypertension League, and the World Stroke Organization.
During the two-day meeting, participants had the opportunity to provide input on advocacy messages, capacity-building resources, implementation, research and publications, and resource mobilization. The World Health Organization provided an update on the implementation of the HEARTS technical package in five countries, and other initiatives which leverage the package were also discussed, including Resolve to Save Lives.
The main outcomes of the meeting included the identification of a target audience for advocacy messages and technical training and the recognition of partner agency platforms which will be used to promote the impact of the initiative and create further momentum around it.
