I nearly died from postpartum preeclampsia.

I nearly died from postpartum preeclampsia.

I was fine throughout my pregnancy in 2025. Everything seemed normal, and after delivery, I was discharged home thinking the hardest part was over.

But after getting home, I started feeling unwell.

Then suddenly, I had the worst headache of my life.

Because of my nursing knowledge and awareness of cardiovascular health, something told me not to ignore it. I checked my blood pressure.

180/110 mmHg.

That number got my attention immediately I know there is danger

I found my way back to the hospital, was admitted, and managed for postpartum hypertension.

Looking back, I keep thinking about what could have happened if I had ignored that headache or assumed it was just part of recovering after childbirth.

We talk a lot about preeclampsia during pregnancy, and rightly so.

But there is still not enough awareness about postpartum hypertension and postpartum preeclampsia.

You can have a safe pregnancy and still develop dangerously high blood pressure after giving birth.

The baby may be home. Everyone may be celebrating. But please remember to check on MUM too.

A severe headache, vision changes, chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling, or feeling unusually unwell after delivery should not simply be dismissed.

Please check your blood pressure after childbirth.

I am sharing my story because I was that woman who almost became a statistic.

Awareness can save a life.
