This 45-year old man, with heavy cigarette smoking history sustained his first heart attack and was saved by primary angioplasty, continued to smoke until he sustained a second heart attack and saved again. He continued to smoke soon after. The only one who was able to convince him to quit smoking was his 12-year old daughter. “If you are OK with me loosing you at the cancer center, keep the habit”, was the magic statement. I started to use this story for all young smokers with CVD who are resistant to quitting smoking.
