I am approaching my 55th birthday, and I lost my father to heart disease when he was just 53 years old. It was 1994, and I had recently turned 23. That devastating loss had a profound impact on my life and the choices I have made ever since.

In honor of my father and the legacy he left behind, I have intentionally avoided cigarette smoke and made conscious efforts to limit unhealthy habits. While I have struggled with my weight at different points throughout my life, the past year has marked a turning point. I made a commitment to myself to become more active, adopt healthier eating habits, and prioritize my overall well-being.

This journey is about more than improving my health. It is about honoring my father’s memory, preserving the values he instilled in our family, and ensuring that I can continue building upon the wonderful legacy he left behind.
