World Heart Day 2026 in Afghanistan: Given the substantial burden of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in Afghanistan, our campaign focused on health education for children and young people. Along with promoting good oral hygiene and overall health, we raised awareness of the link between untreated group A streptococcal throat infections, acute rheumatic fever, and RHD. The initiative stressed early recognition and treatment of streptococcal infections and prevention of recurrent rheumatic fever as essential steps to reduce the burden of RHD in Afghanistan.
