Akoma+ Health and Wellness Foundation Partners Abokobi Polyclinic to Screen 200 Residents On World Heart Day.
As the world marks World Heart Day 2026, the Akoma+ Health and Wellness Foundation in partnership with the Abokobi Polyclinic organized a massive free health screening exercise and exercise session in the Ga-East Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
The exercise, held under this year’s global theme “Don’t Miss A Beat,” brought together hundreds of residents who benefited from free cardiovascular health screening which included blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, assessment of body mass index and free medication.
Addressing the media at the event, the Program Manager for the Foundation, Ms. Amanda Aba Adu-Akoh, said the foundation is committed to creating awareness about heart health and the need for early detection of cardiovascular diseases.
According to her, many Ghanaians are living with hypertension and other heart-related conditions without knowing because they fail to do regular check-ups.
She urged the general public to pay heed to the health education given during the event.
To protect your heart from hypertension, diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases, you must eat more fruits, limit salt intake, do regular exercise and go for regular heart check-ups,” she advised.
Ms. Adu Akoh explained that the theme “Don’t Miss A Beat” is a call for everyone not to ignore the hidden signs of heart disease such as unusual tiredness, chest discomfort, difficulty in breathing and irregular heartbeat.
She highlighted that the foundation is targeting to screen 200 and more residents with free medication for the day as part of its mission to promoting healthy living in the Ga-East municipality and beyond.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to the media expressed gratitude to Akoma+ Health and Wellness Foundation and Abokobi Polyclinic for the intervention, noting that the high cost of healthcare prevents many from checking their health status regularly.
The team from Abokobi Polyclinic also educated residents on lifestyle changes, proper dieting, and the importance of cutting down on salty foods, Indomie, alcohol and fatty foods which contribute to heart diseases.
World Heart Day is celebrated every September 29 worldwide to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, which remain the leading cause of death globally.
