Honourable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,
The World Heart Federation and its Members welcome the draft updated menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions for the prevention and control of NCDs, including cardiovascular disease.
We strongly believe that the targets of the Global Action Plan on NCDs as well as Sustainable Development Goal target 3.4 are still achievable through the implementation of policy, legislative, and regulatory measures to strengthen health systems.
As such, we urge Member States to:
• Adopt the so-called WHO Best Buys, as set out in the latest version of Appendix 3, in order to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, including tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity; and
• Request WHO to revise Appendix 3 on a continuous basis, as appropriate, with the latest evidence.
