PHFI announces eLearning courses: ePost Graduate Program in Health Promotion & eCourse on Tobacco Control (eCTC)

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is a public-private initiative that has collaboratively evolved as a response to redress the limited institutional capacity in India for strengthening training, research and policy development in the area of public health. ( These courses commenced in 2011 as a capacity building initiative for those looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of key concepts in health promotion in India. The course faculty include several reputed national and international experts.

ePost Graduate program in Health Promotion (ePGPHP) programme aims to build health capacity of the participants to enhance their skills and proficiency in designing and implementing health promotion interventions and programmes. The course content includes an introduction to basic public health skills, including statistics and epidemiology, and provides in-depth knowledge of health promotion theories and models. PGDHP has four elective modules on: 1) Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A); 2) Prevention and Control of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs); 3) Tobacco Control and; 4) Oral Health.

eCourse on Tobacco Control (eCTC)  aims to strengthen the capacity of public health and medical professionals in tobacco control issues and cessation in India. The course focuses on the health, economic, social and environmental impact of tobacco use. It equips candidates with an understanding of tobacco control research, best practices as well as tobacco cessation skills, which can be integrated into their professional practice. During the 12 weeks programme, students will learn 8 Core modules and 3 Elective modules which they can choose from over eight different options based on their educational and professional background.

Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Public health / Medicine/ Dentistry/ Nursing/ Pharmacy/ Psychology/Biological Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Allied Health Sciences or equivalent can apply for these courses.  The course is open to both Government Nominated as well as Self-Sponsored applicants. Candidates have the opportunity to be affiliated to this well-recognized and dynamic course at PHFI through a seamless e-learning platform. They have the flexibility to study at their own pace while keeping their current job or academic commitments. These course uses the distance learning approach to promote and provide quality education in an engaging, flexible and self-paced blended format through the latest learning technologies:

  • E-learning content (pre-recorded lectures, discussion forum, reference journal articles, research reports etc.) available for convenient access
  • Self-assessment exercises
  • Recorded lectures by eminent and highly experienced Indian and International faculty

In last few years, a large number of medical and oral health professionals, nodal officers from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India have enrolled for these courses. The candidates enrolled during the last few batches, have benefitted by these courses. After completion of ePost Graduate program in Health Promotion, some of the registered students did enroll for their PhD and fellowship programs at different international universities.
