WHF and Colombian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery hold a Cholesterol roundtable in Colombia

On November 16, 2017, the World Heart Federation, Colombian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (Sociedad Colombiana de Cardiología), Ministry of Health, and Academy & Civil Society of Colombia convened and committed to take decisive actions to decrease by 7,000 the number of myocardial infarctions per year by 2025 in Colombia, resulting in a 25% reduction in mortality.

The meeting was attended by important stakeholders including (in alphabetical order, with their organizations in parentheses in the original language): Dr Fabian Cardona Medina (Asociación Colombiana de Empresas de Medicina Integral, ACEMI), Dr Javier Maldonado (Ministerio de Salud y Protección Social), Dr Alonso Merchán (Sociedad Colombiana de Cardiología), Dr Carlos Muñoz (Consultor Salud), Dr Daniel José Piñeiro (World Heart Federation), Dr Gustavo Restrepo (Sociedad Colombiana de Cardiología), Dr Diego Rosselli (Ispor), Dr Luz Victoria Salazar (Red Colombiana de Hipercolesterolemia Familiar, ACOPEL network), Dr Mauricio Santamaria (E-Concep), Dr Johnnie Smith Husbands Luque (Asociación Colombiana de Sociedades Científicas) and Dr Luis Alberto Soler (Cuenta de Alto Costo).

At the end of the meeting a press conference was held and the ‘Colombian Manifesto for the Prevention of Myocardial Infarction’ was signed by all parties.
