Prof Amitava Banerjee

Senior Advisor, Emerging Leaders Programme

Amitava Banerjee is Professor of Clinical Data Science at UCL, and consultant cardiologist at UCL and Barts Health NHS Trusts. As a researcher, educator and clinician, his interests span data science, CVD and global health. After qualifying from Oxford, he trained as a junior doctor in Oxford, Newcastle, Hull and London. Interests in preventive cardiology and evidence-based medicine led to a Masters in Public Health at Harvard(2004/05), internship at WHO(2005) and DPhil in epidemiology from Oxford(2010). He was clinical lecturer in cardiovascular medicine at University of Birmingham, before moving to UCL in 2015. Although subspecialised in heart failure, he practises general cardiology with interest in atrial fibrillation. His clinical work informs his research and vice versa, whether medical technology evaluation, CVD in under-served populations or COVID-19. At WHF, he was an Emerging Leader in the inaugural 2014 cohort, Senior Advisor to the Emerging Leaders Programme(2018-2025), and Board member 2025/26.
