  • Gain hands-on experience through workshops led by world-class experts.

  • Connect with like-minded professionals and grow their network within the global cardiovascular health community.

By the end of the programme, participants will know how to effectively champion ideas that promote stronger health systems and healthier hearts for everyone.

Who Should Apply?

Whether you’re a healthcare professional, researcher, patient, or advocate with a passion for heart health, this programme is designed for you. It is especially beneficial for those looking to enhance their advocacy skills and make a significant impact in their communities. Previous Emerging Leaders are encouraged to apply and bring their invaluable experience to the table.

Programme

Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday, 27 October for the Welcome Dinner, where they will meet fellow participants, the faculty, the leadership team, and mentors.

The programme will begin with an overview of the World Heart Federation’s work and the fundamentals of advocacy and communications, including the main principles for developing an effective advocacy and communications strategy.

Once the foundations are established, participants will learn how to develop national consensus actions and priorities for their chosen cardiovascular disease areas, and define SMART objectives for their advocacy activities. These sessions will cover the principles of crafting effective messages, focusing on the why, what, who, and how of impactful communication, as well as the storytelling techniques to create compelling narratives. The day will end with an interactive workshop where participants will develop their own messages, applying the day’s techniques to their cardiovascular health advocacy.

Participants will learn best practices for appearing credible and convincing in public and on camera, focusing on enhancing their presence and delivery. Our media training session will help them understand media needs, pitch their story, and handle challenging questions while effectively pushing their messages.

Participants will learn how to create impactful campaigns for policy and behavioural change, as well as evaluate campaign effectiveness. While shaping their campaign strategies, participants will explore the potential of cross-sector collaboration and effective partnerships, learning from successful NCD alliances.

Participants will consolidate their learning with a final session on the art of advocacy, highlighting key takeaways and best practices. They will also learn strategies for managing communication during crises, ensuring they are equipped to handle unexpected challenges that may arise after launching their initiatives. The programme will conclude with participants presenting their personal projects in different public speaking settings.
