Candidacy Motivation and Relevance
It is a great pleasure for me to present my prospective candidacy as a member at large of the World Heart Federation.
I am Dr. Álvaro Sosa Liprandi and I write to you from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I am a clinical cardiologist and at the present time I am the President of the Interamerican Society of Cardiology (SIAC). The SIAC includes 27 national cardiology societies in America. In the past, I have been president of the Argentine Society of Cardiology and Vice President of the Argentine Cardiology Foundation. I am the current head of Cardiology at the Guemes Sanatorium in Buenos Aires and Director of the Graduate School of Cardiology at the University of Buenos Aires.
During the last 8 years from my position in SIAC, as Secretary, Vice President, President-elect and finally President, I have worked very closely with the WHF in different projects for our region, including the development of consensus such as influenza and cardiovascular disease, Polypill as a strategy of prevention and in the preparation and support by SIAC of different roadmaps, including Chagas disease, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, heart failure, among others. We have also worked very hard in positioning World Heart Day in our region and implementing and supporting multiple community education strategies and awareness campaigns.
Next year, at the end of my presidency at SIAC, it would be a great pleasure to be able to continue collaborating with the WHF as a member at large, participating in its different projects and working with the objective of achieving cardiovascular health for all.
