Even to this day, women are still told that it's stress, anxiety, or “nothing serious.” That kind of gaslighting in healthcare is outdated.#WomensDay is almost here, and we're using the opportunity to remind everyone that progress means listening to women, believing women, and improving how women's health is understood and treated.Heart disease is NOT a "man's disease".

Governments, classrooms, clinics... even to this day, women continue to open doors in places that once denied them entry.But there's still so much to do, and some myths still cost lives.Heart disease is not a “man’s disease.” It is the leading cause of death in women worldwide. Many women are dying because they are still underdiagnosed, undertreated and under-represented in clinical trials. Heart failure ≠ your heart stopping! Heart failure happens when your heart doesn't pump blood around your body as well as it should. Cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops. Heart failure symptoms may include shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, increased heart rate, and swelling in your legs, ankles and feet.

In some cases, intense emotional stress can temporarily weaken the heart, a condition known as broken heart syndrome. It happens when a sudden shock like grief, heartbreak, or extreme fear affects how the heart pumps. The good news? In most cases, it’s reversible, and the heart recovers with time and care.

🧑‍🚀A study of 12 astronauts by NASA found that during long periods in microgravity, the heart becomes more spherical as it adapts to a gravity-free environment. This change appears to be temporary, with the heart returning to its normal shape shortly after astronauts return to Earth. While a more spherical heart may work less efficiently, the long-term health effects are still unknown.

A heart attack is not the same as a cardiac arrest.⚡ A cardiac arrest is an electrical problem: your heart suddenly stops beating effectively, cutting off blood flow to the brain and body.🔀 A heart attack is a circulation problem: it happens when blood flow to part of the heart muscle is blocked. Both are life-threatening emergencies. Recognize the signs and call your emergency number right away.
