30 Nov 2015

At the heart of it: innovation and scale in hypertension management in low- and middle-income countries, is one of a series of dialogues spearheaded by the Novartis Foundation global health issues. It is co-hosted with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Centre of Global Non Communicable Diseases and takes place:

Tuesday, 1 December 09:00 to 13:00, The Hospital Club, 24 Endell St, London WC2H 9HQ, United Kingdom

Moderated by Jon Show, Anchor at Channel 4 News (UK), the workshop will feature a short presentation from World Heart Federation (WHF) President elect David Wood on the WHF Hypertension Roadmap. This is one of three Roadmaps developed by WHF in partnership with leading cardiovascular disease experts. Its aim is to provide countries with practical advice and support on dealing with the problem of raised blood pressure, providing the tools needed to improve healthcare and prevent cardiovascular disease in low, middle and high-income countries.

“The Pan-African Society of Cardiology has prioritized hypertension as the single most important ‘best buy’ for the prevention of heart disease and stroke in the African region. To this end, PASCAR is leading a coalition of key stakeholders to adapt and implement the World Heart Federation Roadmap on Hypertension in order to reduce the burden of hypertension in African peoples.” David Wood

A number of eminent speakers (including Prabhakaran Dorairaj, Executive Director, Centre for Chronic Disease Control, who assisted in the development of the Hypertension Roadmap) will then provide examples of hypertension models across LMICs before an open discussion session.
