NCD Alliance

01 May 2017

Working across the globe to put NCDs at the heart of health policies

The Non-Communicable Disease Alliance (NCD Alliance) was founded in 2009 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), joined the same year by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the World Heart Federation (WHF), and in 2010 by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union). Together these federations represent the four major NCDs.

Working with other major NGO organizations, the NCD Alliance unites over 2,000 civil society organizations in more than 170 countries. Through targeted advocacy and outreach and evidence-based policy work, the NCD Alliance works to ensure that NCDs are recognized as a global emergency and are placed at the heart of all policies, in the health sector and beyond.

The WHF works closely with the NCD Alliance in our advocacy to key decision-makers for improved prevention and control of CVD and NCDs. Our collaborative work includes delivering joint statements at global meetings, responding to consultations related to CVD and NCDs, and hosting an ‘NCD Alliance Café’ at the 2016 World Congress of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Health in Mexico City.

The NCD Alliance website provides a rich source of information regarding events, news, progress and ways to get involved.
