Statement of motivation

I am motivated to join the World Heart Federation (WHF) Board because of my lifelong commitment to improving the lives of those affected by heart disease—a commitment that is both professional and personal. As someone who has lived with heart disease, and who lost my own father at 59 to Heart Failure, I have an intimate understanding of the challenges that patients face daily. This experience has not only shaped my approach to advocacy but has also driven my passion to create meaningful change in heart health globally.

As the CEO of Hearts4heart, I have had the privilege of leading an organisation dedicated to reducing preventable strokes, deaths, and suffering among heart disease patients. Our mission is closely aligned with that of WHF, and our work has focused on providing targeted support, education, and advocacy for those living with heart disease.

My lived experience with heart disease has given me unique insights into the real-world impacts of health policies, making me acutely aware of the gaps that often exist between policy intentions and patient realities. This awareness has driven my involvement in health policy, where I have worked to ensure that patient voices are central to the decision-making process. I believe that policy should not only be inclusive but should also reflect the lived experiences of those it aims to serve. This perspective is one that I am eager to bring to the WHF Board.

Joining the WHF Board as a Member At Large would allow me to further contribute to the global fight against cardiovascular disease. My priorities, if elected, would include advocating for stronger, more inclusive health policies that address the disparities in heart disease care and prevention, particularly in underserved communities. I am also passionate about promoting innovative patient support models, that can be scaled and adapted to different contexts worldwide. Empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their health effectively is crucial in reducing the global burden of heart disease.

I bring to this role not only my personal experiences and insights but also a proven track record of leadership and strategic vision. I have consistently demonstrated my ability to turn challenges into opportunities, whether through patient advocacy, organisational management, or policy involvement. My experience uniquely positions me to contribute to the WHF Board in a way that bridges the gap between high-level policy and grassroots patient needs.

My motivation to join the WHF Board is driven by a deep, personal commitment to advancing heart health on a global scale. I believe that my unique blend of personal experience, professional expertise, and policy involvement makes me a highly relevant and valuable candidate for this role. I am eager to bring my passion, insights, and leadership to WHF and to work collaboratively toward a world free from the devastating impacts of cardiovascular disease.
