Geneva’s central location has made it a hub for the European motorway network, with multiple roads leading to the city. The N1 motorway, which runs parallel to Lake Geneva, encircles the city and provides direct access to its center. At the French border in Bardonnex, the N1 connects to the A40, which leads to major destinations such as Lyon, Paris, Chamonix, and Italy.
Geneva enjoys excellent flight connections, with multiple airlines offering direct flights from various cities across Europe and beyond. The airport, situated just 4 km away from Geneva’s city center, is easily accessible by train or bus via the Unireso public transport network (www.unireso.com). For tourist information, visitors can head to the information counter located in the arrival hall of the airport.
More people use the train in Switzerland than in any other country in the world. Geneva boasts excellent connections with the European railway network, thanks to the Swiss SBB/CFF railway company, which links the city to all its neighboring countries. Geneva Cornavin train station is conveniently located in the city center. For further details, please refer to the Swiss Railway company’s website at www.cff.ch.
Visitors staying at hotels, youth hostels, or campsites in Geneva are provided with the Geneva Transport Card, which grants them free access to public transportation for the duration of their stay.
Please use the official website from the Swiss Federation to find out which Visa requirements and health measures apply to you.
