Brazil
My name is Andréa Araujo Brandão, and I am honored to be a candidate for the position of At-large member on the Board of the World Heart Federation. I am a full professor of Cardiology at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, with a career focused on hypertension and cardiovascular prevention. In 2022, I had the privilege of serving as the president of the World Congress of Cardiology, held alongside the Brazilian Congress of Cardiology. This role, along with my experience as the past president of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, has provided me with invaluable insights into the global challenges and opportunities in cardiovascular health.
As a Latin American woman, my career is deeply connected with the healthcare realities of Brazil and similar regions. I have dedicated my work to expanding access to cardiac care, addressing inequalities in healthcare delivery, and emphasizing the critical role of education, policy development, community engagement, and innovation in achieving sustainable improvements in cardiovascular health.
My candidacy is guided by four core pillars:
1. Medical Education and Public Awareness: Effective healthcare begins with education. I am committed to enhancing medical education for healthcare professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills. I also recognize the importance of public education in raising awareness about cardiovascular health, empowering individuals and communities to take proactive steps in preventing and managing heart disease. By improving both professional and public education, we can make significant strides in reducing the global burden of cardiovascular diseases.
2. Innovation and Technology: Innovation and technology are pivotal in advancing cardiovascular care. I am dedicated to supporting the integration of new technologies and innovative approaches that improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of heart diseases. Embracing advanced technologies and cutting-edge solutions in clinical practice and research is essential for enhancing the effectiveness and accessibility of care.
3. Health Policies: Health policies are vital in shaping access to care. I am committed to contributing to the development of policies that expand access to cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment, especially in low- and middle-income countries. It is crucial to advocate for policies that ensure equitable access to healthcare services, regardless of socioeconomic status.
4. Strengthening the WHF Community: The World Heart Federation’s strength lies in its diverse and dedicated community. As an At-large member, I will focus on fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment within the organization. I am passionate about representing the concerns and aspirations of our members and working collectively to advance our mission of promoting heart health worldwide.
I am fully aligned with the mission of the World Heart Federation and am deeply interested in sharing experiences and ideas on a global level, believing that the learning opportunities will be immense.
In conclusion, with dedication, teamwork, and a shared vision, I am confident we can make a meaningful difference in fighting against cardiovascular diseases.
I respectfully seek your support as we work together to achieve these important goals. Thank you for considering my candidacy.
