Statement of motivation

Dear Colleagues

My name is Wael Almahmeed. I am a consultant cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

I am looking for your support to be a member at large in the next WHF committee.

I have over 25 years of experience in Cardiology Associations.

With my senior colleagues, I established the Emirates Cardiac Society and was its third president.

I was the founding member of the Gulf Heart association and was its second president

I have been very active with the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology and am a past President. I continue to be very active with this Society. With the APSC, I sponsor 100 fellows a year to take the ESCs European Examination in Core Cardiology.

I am an active member of the American College of Cardiology. I was the ACC Chapter Governor for the Gulf States, and currently a member of the Assembly of International Governors steering committee.

I have been active in anti-tobacco advocacy and organized the world tobacco or health conference in Abu Dhabi in 2015.

My journey with the WHF started in 2000 when I was the first to celebrate world heart day in the UAE, in conjunction with the Emirates Cardiac Society.

My colleagues and I from the Emirates Cardiac Society won the bid to hold the WHF conference in Dubai in 2012 and 2018. Both were very successful conferences.

I have supported travel grants for both these meetings.

I helped organize the Rheumatic Fever Congress in Abu Dhabi, and supported travel grants for this congress.

Currently I support travel grants for the Emerging Leaders course.

My current role at the WHF is a member of the science committee.

I have known Dr Narula for many years, working with him in the American College of Cardiology. It would be a great honor and privilege to be working with him on the board and the senior members of the WHF.

I will do my best to support the mission and vision of the WHF with my colleagues on the board.
