WHF Lifetime Achievement Award

Prof Salim Yusuf

Prof Salim Yusuf is a Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, Director of the Population Health Research Institute, and Chief Scientist at Hamilton Health Sciences. He holds a Heart and Stroke Foundation Research Chair, was a Senior Scientist of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and has led over 25 major trials, several of of which have changed medical practice.

Dr Nanette Kass Wenger

Dr Nanette Wenger has been a leader in the cardiology field, authoring and co-authoring more than 1,300 scientific and review articles and book chapters. Over the course of her career, Wenger became one of the first doctors to focus on heart disease in women, when it was still thought to primarily affect men.

WHF Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cardiovascular Health

Dr Lisheng Liu

Prof Lisheng Liu undertook her higher education in Peking Union Medical College and had worked in Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Beijing Fuwai Hospital. In 1980, she went to the University of Alabama for postdoctoral research. She has served respectively as Deputy Dean of Beijing Fuwai Hospital, Director of Internal Medicine, Director of Hypertension Research Section and a Professor.

WHF Advocacy Award in Cardiovascular Health

Dr Sulafa Ali

Prof Sulafa Ali is a Professor at University of Khartoum and Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at Sudan Heart Centre and Jafaar Ibn Ouf Children’s Hospital. She established a program in Sudan in 2004 and a Fellowship Training Program for Paediatric Cardiology at Sudan Medical Specialization Board in 2009.

HEARTs in the Americas Programme

HEARTS in the Americas is an initiative of the countries, led by the Ministries of Health with the participation of local stakeholders with the technical cooperation of PAHO. It seeks to integrate progressively into already existing health delivery services to promote the adoption of global best practices in the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases.

Best Global Heart Paper

Dr Kuni Matsushita 

Dr Kuni Matsushita’s paper, published in Global Heart on 20 September 2020 suggests that hypertension, diabetes and CVD are independently associated with severe COVID-19 and, together with age and male sex, can be informative for predicting the risk of severe COVID-19.
