Miss coarctation diagnosis
"I used ♥ to: My heart goes to Dr. Baard Neonatologist Namibia "
I narrated how it is important that neonates are given a thorough examination of the thier little hearts even without expensive scans.
I went on to share how during our pregnancy we were having child monitored by scans and we were told baby was growing well no issues to worry about.
We delivered by C section on the 8th day of Nov 2006 at Windhoek, Namibia. Doctor who performed the C section declared baby ok and was to be discharged. Chance walk through by my colleague a one illustrious neonatologist Dr. Baard was walking through to see his new Borns when he saw name Baby Lwansa. He took interest and asked to be directed to my wife. After introducing himself and pleasantries he asked about the baby. She said baby was ok. He then asked to see our daughter. Physical examination and palpation of the inguinal blood veins alerted him to reduced pressure and immediately pointed to coarctation. Within hours we were evacuated to cape town to a very renouned prominent Pediatric congenital cardothoracic surgeon, Dr. Susan Vosloo. Her cardiologist did extensive cardio scans and confirm seriousness. Child was opened on her 9th day of birth. Op was very successful. Daughter is now 18 with no complications. The profile photo you see is myself on your right and pilot who flew us out of Windhoek. I was to meet him in South Sudan
Importance of this is to encourage doctors and midwives to learn to palpate
