SOLVE-CHD’s impact on WHD24
"I used ♥ to: for action "
In recognition of World Heart Day (29 September 2024), SOLVE-CHD spearheaded a dynamic series of events aimed at raising awareness about heart disease, both online and in-person, across various locations in Australia. These initiatives, held in collaboration with key partners, successfully engaged students, professionals, and community members, fostering a greater understanding of cardiovascular health and preventive measures.
Celebrating Heart Health with Students at the University of Sydney
At the heart of our World Heart Day activities was a student engagement event held on the University of Sydney campus. Organized in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Initiative and Westmead Applied Research Centre, the event offered heart-healthy tips, life-saving CPR lessons, exciting giveaways, and a fun photo competition. More than 300 students and community members attended, learning about cardiovascular health and how to respond effectively in emergencies. The atmosphere was one of enthusiasm and action, as attendees left equipped with valuable knowledge that could one day save lives.
Spotlight on SOLVE-CHD’s Impact: A National Webinar
SOLVE-CHD’s Principal Investigator, Professor Julie Redfern, was an honored guest speaker in the NHMRC Talk Science series for a special World Heart Day webinar. The session focused on the impactful work being done through the SOLVE-CHD NHMRC Synergy Grant and attracted over 100 attendees from across Australia. The webinar showcased SOLVE-CHD’s critical efforts to bridge the gap between evidence and practice in cardiac rehabilitation and coronary heart disease prevention, further extending the reach and impact of World Heart Day.
Community Engagement in Rural Australia: Health Screenings and Education
SOLVE-CHD’s commitment to raising heart health awareness extended to rural communities through collaborations with the WA Centre for Rural Health. Together, they co-hosted two impactful community events in Geraldton and Carnarvon, offering health screenings and educational sessions. These events were a great success, with over 100 community members participating in hands-on activities such as blood pressure measurements and grip strength tests, sparking meaningful conversations about cardiovascular health. Health professionals and practicum students worked side by side, empowering communities with knowledge and tools to manage their heart health proactively.
Expanding Our Reach: Social Media Success
Our digital efforts were just as impactful. SOLVE-CHD’s social media campaign for World Heart Day 2024 reached over 10,000 views, amplifying our message and raising awareness about heart health far and wide. The success of this online engagement reflects the growing momentum behind our mission to combat heart disease through awareness and action.
A Unified Effort for Better Heart Health
World Heart Day 2024 was a resounding success for SOLVE-CHD and its partners, thanks to the hard work of our dedicated volunteers and the active participation of the broader community. From student-focused initiatives to community outreach in rural Australia, our collective efforts made a significant impact, fostering a deeper understanding of cardiovascular health and encouraging everyone to take action for a healthier heart.
We are proud to say that on World Heart Day 2024, SOLVE-CHD used ♥️ for action and signed for ♥️.
